Style: Funky weirdness with a twist of lemon.
Track length: 3.48
Year: 2004
This track was inspired by my good friend Rob. His unbelievable negligence of his mobile phone resulted in me listening to his answer phone many times. It was after the tenth time in one day that I decided to record it and make a tune out of it before I visited him later that day.
CIDER N BLACK
Style: Can't describe it, should be on a car advert or something.
Track Length: 4.11
Year: 2004
Can you guess what I was drinking when I wrote this track? I had to finish it the next day because I stored far too many pints in my stomach and my brain left me for another man. It was also inspired by a Nepalese mountain goat called Jeff.
COUNTDOWN
Style: Breakbeat and asparagus.
Track Length: 3.51
Year: 2000
This was supposed to be a very serious University assignment but I managed to turn it into a tea drinking session with Richard and Carol everyday. If you're wondering how many shows I had to watch before I got the 'Lesbian Bassline' sample, it was two. The entire tracks samples only came from three shows, Richard talks so much bollox I was overwhelmed with stupid things to put in. The idea of the assignment was to create a track which uses only sounds recorded from the show (apart from the drums and bass) and recreate the mindless random drivel that appears in every show everyday. A sort of musical microcosm of the greatest show on earth, rest in peace ole Richy Boy.
COUNTDOWN 2
Style: Breakbeat with undertones of fish.
Track Length: 3.55
Year: 2004
I enjoyed doing the first one so much I thought I'd do another one, the first one didn't really flow either. Put it on your music hole.
ENGLISH GIRLS
Style: Breakbeat with a feisty Dutch Female
Track Length: 3.47
Year: 2006
I started writing this track whilst I was in Australia and thought it only right to include the lovely Bianca who I met previously in New Zealand. I haven’t edited her in any way, she really does speak that fast and also has amazingly accurate views on English Girls, I love her! I have mostly been drinking Australian Shiraz’ whilst writing this tune.
FLY GUY
Style: A filthy, heavy, seething mass of GRRRRRR!
Track Length: 3.39
Year 2006
A solid week of listening to Nina Simone and I couldn't resist stealing the piano sample from ‘Good Bait’ any longer. It's been pitched up to fit with the bass and altered a little but definitely gives the tune an angry kind of feel. Prince kindly co-operate with the making of this track and offered his vocal skills. It was quite hard fitting his entire entourage into my bedroom but we managed it in the end.
FUNKY CHOPS
Style: Drum n Bass
Track Length: 5.55
Year: 2003
Ooh I like this one but no-one else seems to, see what you think.
HIPJOINT
Style: Drum n Bass
Track Length: 4.28
Year: 2004
I think this one would go down really well in a club. The vocal is Freddie Mercury on one of his off days and the droning build up noise is taken from The Beatles 'A Day In The Life'. Please play it loud.
HITMAN
Style: A Garage/Breakbeaty thing.
Track Length: 3.44
Year: 2000
This tune was inspired by another good man, he left this beautiful answer phone message for me after he put his car into a ditch. The bassline was actually created by accident but don't tell anyone.
JIMMY TUNE
Style: Heavy beats with utter weirdness.
Track Length: 1.17
Year: 2004
This was done for a joke but everyone seems to like it. Whenever I burn a cd of my tunes for a friend I create a little intro for them, this one was for my good friend Jim Boyne. It took me 20 minutes to make and no-one was supposed to hear it other than Jim Boyne Boyne Boyne Boyne Boyne...
KEEP IT WHOLEMEAL
Style: Drum N Plaice
Track Length: 5.53
Year: 2002
The whole 'Bodyrock' thing was going on in Drum n Bass and I thought I'd have a go. I had just moved to Cardiff when i wrote this and met a very strange guy who thought it was funny to shout 'Damn woman, you're electrifying' to every female in sight. To shut him up I recorded him and put him in the track, if you see him please tell him I've moved to Outer Mongolia. Oh also, eat wholemeal foods, they are very good for you.
METROLINK
Style: Drum n Bass
Track Length: 5.12
Year: 2006
I love this one! Andre 3000 was refusing to co-operate at first, but a good poke with a stick and he came round. I don't really do Drum n Bass anymore but found this one amongst the crap of my computer from years ago and decided to finish it off. It's probably the last one I’ll do as I'm hanging up my drum n bass legs for good soon.
P.L.I.
Style: Heavy breaks with a light coating of Michael Jackson
Track Length: 4.00
Year: 2005
Michael had been hassling me to work with him for ages and so I finally gave in. I'm still amazed at how beefy it came out. Wait for the breakdown in the middle, I like that bit, reminds me of my Auntie's old dog 'Tigger'.
SWEET DREAMS
Style: A Big rework of the 80's classic
Track Length: 4.58
Year 2005
I broke my own rule with this track; never remix a great tune because it's already great and therefore doesn't need it. What the hell it was fun and I drank some great wine in the process.
THE CAVALRY
Style: Breakbeat
Track Length: 3.51
Year: 2004
Possibly my greatest tune ever if you ask me. The ladies cheering is taken from 'Love Shack' and the stabbing sound is from Duran Duran's 'View to a kill'. I like cake.
THE HANDYBOOK
Style: A funky beat ridden pile of tips for the girls
Track Length: 2.30
Year: 2005
I was just having some fun again. The information is taken from a real book called 'The Housewife Handybook' published in 1920 and has some fantastic tips for youthful looking skin, I live by it. I don't know who the bloke reading it is, I recorded it from that crap bit they have in the middle of each show of Countdown.
